CAT #5 Blog Entry 4.1

I enjoyed reading this passage because i agreed with most of the author's main ideas. It amazed me that spending too much time on the internet can cause health problems. The author pointed out many things, but he made it clear that the internet can help the children instead of it being useless. I believe that technology can be very beneficial to teenagers and children in many different ways instead of it being categorized as a bad thing.
The author of this passage first talks about his new book to explain that the internet can vbe used as a teaching tool. He then goes on to say that kids being on it frequently can experience health problems including obesity. So basically, i believe thatr the author does not fully agree with the use of internet for studies. However, since so many teenagers use it anyway, he finds methods that people can use to not get "plugged in". One of those methods or formulas he describes in his paasage is "30 min. of non-tech followed by an hour of tech". The author made this formula based on his experience with many families. The author than states that social networks, texting, and other tech is our social life and it helps us develop and grow.
Internet can play a parent role to help kids develop and grow. As i was growing up i had no father to show me or teach me any cool things. When my mom first bought a computer with internet, I spent long periods of time on it. While on it, social networks and other websites helped me become the man that i am today. It showed me what kind of clothes and snearkers i should wear because of its popularity. It also influenced my personality by showing me how to and how not to act around certain types of people. Basically what i am trying to say is that the internet is mainly responsible for who i am today.
Mobile devices and internet has made children's lives easier when it comes to school. When a child is assigned homework they can do a few things before going back to their notes or re-reading a chapter. They can easily use their mobile devices to text a friend for help on the subject or maybe even to copy the whole thing. They can also go on google and type in the exact question the homework is asking and find a quick answer. This would be easier than spending more time looking thr4iugh pages of the textbook and/or your notes for the answer. A teen can also use microsoft word to type the work up and actually see some errors they can correct. Eventually, people would go to school and type their notes instead of writing them down on a notebook.
Being "plugged in" can keep kids off the streets to prevent them from being involved with bad activities. A lot of people say that being plugged in can be a bad thing. However, I see it as a great thing. As a young teenager growing up my friends would always want to do bad things. Instead, i would just leave them to go home to use the internet. I guess i was obsessed with using the internet but it did me good because most of my friends have been to jail.
A lot of people always talk bad about the internet when it is clearly out future. Technology has affected in at least someway everyone living today. The author understands that it is taking over by showing that he has his methods in how children can connect it with studying.

  1. We need your claim/position from the very beginning! Or at least at theend of the first paragraph.
