I showed up 15 minutes early to be completely ready. I made sure i ate good so i wouldnt be hungry while taking the exam. i made sure i had already turned off my phone so i would not be worried if it rings or vibrates. The prompt shows up and appears to be a old mean lady. She tells us its time and i go inside the classroom confident about finishing early. I recieve the passage and the booklet and i take my time reading it. After reading it i think about some claims and reasons i could possibly use to write a good essay. I then doze off like i usually do and start thinking about something else. When i realized what my introduction will look like i get to writing. After im done writing i re-read my essay for any grammer mistakes i could have made. When im done i just leave the classroom confident, the same way i walked in.

CAT 6 Blog Entry # 4.3
After reading this passage, it made me really think about the affect Google has had on me. I agree with the author that Google is making us stupid in the sense of us being too lazy. However, Google does the same job that an index on the back of a textbook does. It shows the page a person can go to instead of going though all the pages. Other websites can be misleading and possibly have the wrong answers. That’s why the internet is such a special place, by having so much possibilities and choices to choose from. I believe that the internet is affecting people in many ways.
In this passage, the author Nicholas Carr explains that he feels that the search engine website Google is making people stupid. He gives the website credit for the amazing ability to show useful information about anything in the blink of an eye. However, he feels like people become smarter thinking for themselves instead of finding information quickly. Then he says that Google and internet in general is a distraction from our concentration of our thoughts. He goes on to say that Google makes more money the more people click on links and its making us think superficially. He finishes his passage by saying if we want to develop our minds, we have to turn off most electronics and “start thinking”.
The internet can make people lazy which can lead to health issues. Nowadays anything can be done from the internet. People can go shopping through the internet instead of waiting on long lines and walking around from store to store. Some people can actually work at home on the computer instead of normally driving to a workplace. Now spending too much time sitting down using the computer can cause many issues. Earlier this year I spent a lot of time staying home using the internet for my entertainment. All my friends would want to play sports or go out and I would always make up an excuse to not go and stay home using my computer. After a month or so my mother would always say you getting fat and I was, but I never noticed it. Then one day I went out to play basketball and I was so out of shape that I played for a few minutes and just couldn’t get up.
Google can be used as “cheating” when it comes to schoolwork. Why go through so much work when you can search on Google. When I was a kid I had a project due that week which involved a bunch of questions. I was stressing it, going through all my notebooks and textbooks. My sister saw me and asked why I am spending so much looking for answers if I can just search on Google. That was the first time I was introduced to Google and I got my project done extremely fast. Unfortunately my teacher found out that I search Google and basically plagiarized everything and made me do it again.
Google can have all your personal information shown just by typing full name. Google has so much power that it can show sometimes too much information. By typing up a full name of a person many different links will come up. Most of the time that person’s twitter, facebook, and myspace will be shown. Many people might have a problem with their pages being shown without the permission given. That’s how fake profiles are made, by using information shown by Google.
The internet is a very special place that can be used in many beneficial ways to make the world easier and more entertaining. However, it can also have its many bad effects on people that can lead them to do many bad things. Google is starting to own everything on the internet by so much money being produced by people clicking on links. So we have got to start accepting that the internet is our future and will be used for everything.

CAT #5 Blog Entry 4.1
I enjoyed reading this passage because i agreed with most of the author's main ideas. It amazed me that spending too much time on the internet can cause health problems. The author pointed out many things, but he made it clear that the internet can help the children instead of it being useless. I believe that technology can be very beneficial to teenagers and children in many different ways instead of it being categorized as a bad thing.
The author of this passage first talks about his new book to explain that the internet can vbe used as a teaching tool. He then goes on to say that kids being on it frequently can experience health problems including obesity. So basically, i believe thatr the author does not fully agree with the use of internet for studies. However, since so many teenagers use it anyway, he finds methods that people can use to not get "plugged in". One of those methods or formulas he describes in his paasage is "30 min. of non-tech followed by an hour of tech". The author made this formula based on his experience with many families. The author than states that social networks, texting, and other tech is our social life and it helps us develop and grow.
Internet can play a parent role to help kids develop and grow. As i was growing up i had no father to show me or teach me any cool things. When my mom first bought a computer with internet, I spent long periods of time on it. While on it, social networks and other websites helped me become the man that i am today. It showed me what kind of clothes and snearkers i should wear because of its popularity. It also influenced my personality by showing me how to and how not to act around certain types of people. Basically what i am trying to say is that the internet is mainly responsible for who i am today.
Mobile devices and internet has made children's lives easier when it comes to school. When a child is assigned homework they can do a few things before going back to their notes or re-reading a chapter. They can easily use their mobile devices to text a friend for help on the subject or maybe even to copy the whole thing. They can also go on google and type in the exact question the homework is asking and find a quick answer. This would be easier than spending more time looking thr4iugh pages of the textbook and/or your notes for the answer. A teen can also use microsoft word to type the work up and actually see some errors they can correct. Eventually, people would go to school and type their notes instead of writing them down on a notebook.
Being "plugged in" can keep kids off the streets to prevent them from being involved with bad activities. A lot of people say that being plugged in can be a bad thing. However, I see it as a great thing. As a young teenager growing up my friends would always want to do bad things. Instead, i would just leave them to go home to use the internet. I guess i was obsessed with using the internet but it did me good because most of my friends have been to jail.
A lot of people always talk bad about the internet when it is clearly out future. Technology has affected in at least someway everyone living today. The author understands that it is taking over by showing that he has his methods in how children can connect it with studying.

The author's claim is " People do better their task when they do single tasks and multi-tasking peers to poor task. This is a good claim but it would be even better if the author wrote it in a clearer way. The author makes sure she uses examples and sources to back up her reasons. One source she used was a recent experiment from Stanford University. The author does good in not having too many run-on sentences and not talking about stuff that is irrelevant. Needs help to reorganize this sentence for better understanding. The author made really short paragraphs and she needs to make it more clear. I felt like she kept repeating herself. Also, there are many errors in her sentence structure which makes reading the essay difficult.

Blog 3.5 CAT 4 Rewrite
It has always amazed me when i see a fast food restaurant on every block in downtown Manhattan. This article amazed me even more by informing me about the affect it can have on inner-city communities. i believe that fast-food restaurants can affect the poorer americans. Almost everywhere in NYC, you can find a fast food place.
In this article the author tells us that the fast food companies are targeting poor inner-city communities. The autor then talks about his local McDonalds and how many poor people come in at around 5 pm, the times when people get off work. He also mentions the 'black' students, who also head to Mcdonalds right after they are done with school. The author then switches the topic to calories and how it is way above an average teenager's daily consumption. Finally, the author is basically against these companies which target these people in certain times of the year.
Fast food restaurants targets a lot of children because of their minor responsibilities. Right after they are done with school, the kids are most likely hungry and have money because of their parents. The adults are probably too busy working to cook. No matter where the school is, there is a fast food place nearby. School lunch is disgusting and the kids do not know about whats nutritious or not for the human body, which will make them head to any fast food place.
Poor people want to spend less money on food. Even bums on the street can ask for change on trains and save up enough to buy various items from the dollar menu. With more and any type of customers, McDonalds sells a lot which allows them to keep growing their food chains more and more. That is why there are more McDonalds around low income communities because there are more customers. Rich people would much rather buy a 7 dollar cheeseburger instead of 1 dollar cheeseburger from McDonalds value meal. Therefore, they make more money where anybody and everybody can afford the low prices.
A Meal from a fast food place might cost about 5-7 dollars. People with families can buy meals from McDonalds for cheaper instead of buying rice and meat and actually wasting time cooking the meal. They dont want to go through all of those steps when they can go to the fast food place and get it in a couple of minutes. Even if it isnt healthy, people do not care. All they see it as is saving money, and today thats all people care about.
I live in Corona, Queens and on every corner there is a fast food restaurant. Right by the mall also, it has almost as much fast food places as the shopping stores. Inside the mall it has food courts with a lot of choices. Even outside it has Mcdonalds, pizza shops, hot dog stands. If i were to walk a block away i would find burger king. If i walked the other way i would hit wendys. So basically everywhere i go, i always have the choice of buying a cheeseburger and fries with a coke. With so many things i have going on everyday, i dont have much time so i would just order fast food because its very fast and fills me up. Thats one of the main reasons why people today buy fast food, they normally would not have the time and would want food fast.
Fast food restaurants are everywhere. Its sad that it targets the communities that my friends and i are living in today. They do not care about us because they know that too much of these meals will make us obese and overweight.
